What is RTI?

Response to Intervention (RTI) in homeschooling students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) involves a structured approach to providing targeted support and interventions to meet the diverse learning needs of these students.

Overseeing ASD Instruction at Home

  • Setting Ethical Standards: Ensuring all decisions and actions align with ethical principles, prioritizing the well-being and educational outcomes of students with ASD.
  • Visionary Leadership: Providing a clear vision for RtI (Response to Intervention) and Multi-tiered Interventions (MTSS) implementation, emphasizing inclusivity and excellence in education.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Facilitating collaboration among team members, including parents, JSPED Education Consulting, therapists (behavioral, speech, OT, PT), and other specialists, to ensure holistic support for each student.

Universal Instruction:

Providing high-quality, evidence-based instruction that is tailored to the individual needs of the student with ASD. This includes using differentiated teaching methods, visual supports, and other strategies that accommodate the student's learning style and strengths.

Targeted Interventions: 

If a student demonstrates difficulty in certain areas (e.g., communication, social skills, behavior), targeted interventions are implemented. These interventions are more specific and intensive than Tier 1 strategies and are designed to address identified challenges early on.

Intensive Interventions: 

For students who require additional support beyond Tier 2 interventions, more intensive and individualized interventions are provided. This may include specialized therapies such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy, depending on the needs of the student.

RtI offers students multiple levels, or tiers, of evidence-based instruction & interventions. At each tier in the framework, students receive effective, differentiated instruction. The intensity of instruction at each tier will vary depending on students' learning needs.
